BMW Piezo Injector Cleaning and Flow Testing

Whether your Piezo injectors are dirty or clogged, our premium injector cleaning and flow testing service delivers manufacturer-level static and dynamic testing on state of the art precision computer-controlled benches and includes all required replacement parts.

• If we determine the injectors is bad electrically or mechanically before we begin cleaning and testing we will call you, let you know and refund you the service cost of that injector. This happens more than you would think.
• After we clean them, if the injector is still leaking badly we won’t even test them as we know they will fail. We will call you, let you know and refund you the service cost of that injector.
• Specific to Direct injectors only, once cleaning and testing are performed, if an injector fails the manufacturer tests, either slightly and are still usable or are to the point of being unusable regarding expected flows, no refund is issued. The injector’s condition is determined after approximately two hours of labor, and that outcome is considered a valid result.
• Unlike port injectors, Piezo injectors are cleaned first and then tested; they are not pre-tested.

• These injectors operate at extremely high pressures of 500-2500 PSI. Our Carbon Zapp GDR-X test bench, featuring computer-controlled fluid temperature management executes manufacturer-specific injector flow test plans at pressures up to 5,000 PSI exclusively for all Direct injector testing. To help ensure success, we employ proprietary cleaning procedures.
• Each injector is evaluated according to manufacturer test plans to ensure OEM-level accuracy with up to 8 precision tests per injector on our computer-controlled test bench.

BMW piezo injectors are prone to leaking more than virtually any other injector type.

• This service is geared toward Index 12 injectors, we see unusable injector failure of 10% with Index 12 injectors and higher failure rates with Index 11.  We do not recommend service for Index 10 or lower due to an low success rate, though we will attempt it if you send them in as you are requesting.
• BMW piezo injectors below Index 12 were revised due to design flaws, primarily the high tendency to leak. Cleaning and flow testing pre-index 12 injectors cannot resolve those fundamental design issues issues.
• If you have Index 12 Continental (Siemens VDO) fuel injectors for a BMW N54, N63, N74 or S63 that need cleaning, we can help, but it’s important to understand the realities of these injectors. While Index 12 injectors are the latest revision, they are not problem-free piezoelectric injector technology; despite being impressive and advanced; they have still proven less reliable than expected and still suffer from higher failure rates than we see with GDI injectors.
• *An important note here, just because an injector “fails” one or two tests does not necessarily mean it is unusable; it depends on the degree of the failure. We encourage you to review the “How to Read GDI & Piezo Injector Test Reports” section below, which includes a sample report and detailed explanations to help you understand what you’ll be seeing.
• We offer no warranty or guarantee on longevity, as injector performance after reinstallation is beyond our control and failures can occur at any time. We have, on a few occasions, seen injectors leave the shop testing fine but then fail after installation.
• In most cases, investing in newer Index 12 injectors is a better strategy. Even used ones with a guarantee then send those in for service. If they are bad you can get another unit or refund under the sellers guarantee.

Our BMW fuel injector cleaning and flow testing includes piezo stack regeneration only when testing indicates it is necessary or if request it. If you ask for regeneration regardless of test results, we can perform it; however, we are not responsible for any resulting injector issues. While our equipment is capable of regenerating the piezo crystal stack using controlled pressure, heat, and voltage at three incremental levels, this process is appropriate only under very specific failure conditions; which are rare for these injectors.

Claims that piezo stack regeneration “restores injectors to OEM specifications” or “broadly improves performance” are misrepresentations. Stack regeneration is suitable only for one specific type of failure. Applying it to injectors that fail for other reasons; or to injectors that already test good; can make them worse and often causes failure. Each injector must be analyzed for specific conditions to determine eligibility. Injectors that test good are never candidates for piezo stack regeneration. That information came directly from the manufacturer.

• Pre-index 11 Injectors – No Piezo Stack regeneration will be ever be performed on index 10 and lower injectors. We will provide Injector service if you ask, but results may remain unsatisfactory due to their inherent design issues.
• Index 11 Injectors – We will not regenerate the Piezo stack if the injectors are testing within spec. We only attempt regeneration when an injector fails the designated tests in the specific way required that responds to subsequent stack regeneration.
• Index 12 Injectors – We will not regenerate the Piezo stack if the injectors are testing within spec. We only attempt regeneration when an injector fails the designated tests in the specific way required that responds to subsequent stack regeneration.

• After addressing the concerns and “what ifs” surrounding the realities of these BMW piezo injectors, all said, we consistently achieve better results thanks to our unique cleaning procedures.
• It’s not uncommon for injectors that undergo traditional cleaning methods; especially non-leaking units; to perform poorly on testing. However, employing our proprietary chemicals with our air-injected cleaning process and POWERFLUSH treatment, those same injectors often snap right back into the proper flow corridors.
• In fact, even Piezo injectors with slight leaks can pass the performance tests after our specialized cleaning. It does not happen every time, but it does happen frequently. Even for pre-index 12 injectors.
• We have verified this phenomenon with our own used Piezo Injectors as well as with customers injectors randomly from time to time.

• Mark each injector with its cylinder number using a Sharpie and masking tape tag or something similar. We will tag the injectors with plastic tags using your provided number.
• These injectors come with flow rate coding values. Those offset values per injector are input into the Engine Management system (DME) corresponding to the engine cylinder number. Unless you plan on doing DME changes you will need to put them back in the original cylinder.
• If you replace BMW piezo injectors with new or used injectors, you must code them to the Engine Control Module (ECM), also known as the Digital Motor Electronics (DME). This is a mandatory programming step, and failure to do so can cause serious engine issues and damage.
