What To Expect: Port Injector Cleaning

  • Our premium fuel injector proprietary cleaning along with flow testing includes comprehensive static and dynamic flow testing performed both before and after cleaning.
  • You will receive new fuel injector components, including filters, O-rings, seals, caps, grommets, clips, spacers, decouplers, clamps, ferrules, caps, hoses or combustion seals, with OEM options generally available for all injector types.
  • If an injector fails our preliminary or electrical inspection or basic function tests before cleaning and subsequent testing, we will notify you of the issue a full refund that injectors service cost.
  • Some older top feed injectors are painted with spray paint, some of that paint may come off during the cleaning process, we do not repaint injectors as it is cosmetic, customers can repaint as desired. If you wish us to strip painted injectors let us know and we can light media blast them down to bare metal at no charge.

Port Injector Specific Test Benches

  • Port and Throttle body type injector testing is performed on our Carbon Zapp GS8 Port injector test bench supporting pressures up to 95 PSI. Our test bench bench has been upgraded to run temperature-controlled calibration fluid, maintained at 75°–80°F for consistent, repeatable results. Our standard port injector flow testing always include BOTH Static and Dynamic tests for injectors that support both.
  • Port Injectors are flow-tested to evaluate performance, checking for leaks, blockages, spray pattern issues, and volume accuracy as well as Electrical Resistance, Short Circuit & Open Circuit Test.

Dynamic and Static Injector Testing

We  perform both Static and Dynamic testing as part of our service. Static injector flow refers to the fuel flow rate when the injector is held fully open, while dynamic injector flow measures the flow rate during pulsed operation, simulating real-world engine conditions. Our port injector flow testing always includes both types of tests when applicable to the specific injector model. Some injectors, such as E-TEC, do not support static tests as an example. Here’s a more detailed explanation:

Static Flow

  • This is the flow rate when the injector is energized and held open continuously (100% duty cycle).
  • It’s a simple measurement of the maximum output of the injector at a given pressure.
  • Static flow is often used as a benchmark for injector capacity and is commonly expressed in units like lbs/hr or cc/min.
  • Static flow output volume is generally much higher than dynamic flow since it operates like an open hose with unrestricted flow.

Dynamic Flow

  • This measures the fuel flow rate when the injector is pulsed on and off, simulating the way injectors operate in a running engine.
  • Dynamic flow is influenced by factors like pulse width (the time the injector is open during a pulse) and pulse frequency (the number of pulses per second).
  • Dynamic flow testing is crucial for understanding how injectors perform under real-world operating conditions, including idling, acceleration, and deceleration.
  • Dynamic flow is sometimes expressed in duty cycles, which is the percentage of time the injector is turned on during a pulse period.

Cleaning Fuel Injectors With Ultrasonic

  • You can definitely clean Fuel injectors in Ultrasonic cleaner but with important caveats. Not all fuel injectors are the same, and not every ultrasonic cleaner is the same or appropriate for fuel injector service.
  • Despite the many YouTube videos of $100 Ultrasonic machines used to clean injectors at home there is a huge difference between those cheap Chinese machines and Laboratory / Shop-Grade Ultrasonic Equipment costing thousands of dollars per machine.
  • The effectiveness of ultrasonic fuel injector cleaning depends not only on the process itself, but on using the proper equipment and chemicals to execute it correctly. You van read more below.

Heated Calibration Test Fluid

  • We use the latest Carbon Zapp GS8 for all port fuel injector flow testing to determine if they are flowing within the required tolerances as well as electrical resistance, short circuit & open circuit test.
  • Our test bench has been upgraded to run temperature-controlled calibration fluid, maintained at 75°–80°F for consistent, repeatable results. Our standard port injector flow testing always include BOTH Static and Dynamic tests on injectors that support both. Depending on the injector type, we warm them for 2–4 minutes as well as performing testing at that temperature as well. For most injectors, the dynamic test consists of a full 60-second run to ensure a proper sample.
  • For direct injectors, our GDR-x computer-controlled test bench preheats both the test fluid and the injector for up to five minutes prior to testing as part of the test protocol.

Proper Injector Numbering

  • Optionally mark each injector with its cylinder number using a Sharpie and masking tape tag or something similar. We will etch the injectors using your provided number.
  • Writing on the injector with a sharpie will rub off during shipping.
  • Etching the numbers is fine as long as they are not obscure and hard to find, we are not responsible if we do not not find your numbering.
  • But honestly it is just easier and far more reliable to use a strip of painters tape with a sharpie number.
