It’s important to understand that the coefficient file required by the Evinrude EMM is unique to each injector. When replacing an E-TEC injector, you must update the EMM with that new or used injector’s specific coefficients. You can retrieve the coefficients by scanning the QR code on the injector tag; however, those values represent new injector data and do not account for wear. If you purchase injector coefficients from a dealer, their coefficient files should include adjustments for age and usage.
What are those coefficients for anyhow?
- Flow Rate Deviation Adjustment: No two injectors flow the exact same amount of fuel due to manufacturing tolerances. The code tells the Engine Control Unit (ECU/DME/EMM) if a specific injector flows slightly more or less than the baseline so it can adjust the pulse width (opening time) accordingly. That’s it, there is no magic to it.
- Detailed instructions for updating the Injector Coefficients following an injector replacement is available in the accompanying image and downloadable PDF.
